This is a godsend for amateur subtitle creators, like me. Clicking on a subtitle will move the play marker at the start key, from there you can isolate and play only the part of the track that is contained within that segment. Better yet, you can use the visual interface to extend, reduce, split and create segments as you see fit. Hence, you no longer need to worry about marking start and stop keys for every line. After selecting the desired track from the timeline, you can open the Subtitle Editor where VideoStudio can scan the track for voices and automatically assign subtitle segments. VideoStudio has a very neat subtitle creation window. The fifth track is reserved for subtitles. The latter can be used to record commentary. There are also two audio tracks, one for pre-recorded audio and another one dedicated to voice recording. Very useful for reaction videos or commentary. The timeline contains two video tracks, the second is an overlay box, which can be re-sized and set in any position on the screen. The Edit window on the other hand is where you can import video clips and stitch them together into a cohesive result (hopefully). Whats more there's a Stop Motion feature for those who are into making stick-man animation. Alternatively, you can capture the computer screen, or scan DV tapes. Using a connected video recording device, you can begin capturing footage directly into VideoStudio. In case you intend to make a talking head video, this is the section to focus on initially. However, to ease dilettantes into the standard workflow of video creation, the main window is split into three tabs: Capture, Edit (which I've just described) and Share. The main editing screen is comprised of a preview panel, a resource panel and the timeline. The main application, VideoStudio is very similar to others of its kind.
I say semi-professional because it looks the part, but it isn't that deep. Ulead Video Plus, or should I say Corel VideoStudio X8, is a semi-professional video editing suite.

Next to highly professional software there's also a lower tier of applications that only contain the necessary features for a decent project and boast a work flow style interface. This in part due to the savviness of content creators, but also because the tools of the trade have become accessible to a larger audience.

I am currently beta testing VS Pro X6 and it has improved on motion video but, Vegas is still better.Video creation and distribution has become a rather simple process. I take the best from both and with excellent result My videos produced by Corel are vivid, rich in color and clarity that I don't think waiting an extra four hours, or more, can noticeably improve upon. "Nothing good of consequence is ever accomplished without exertion." So, I use Vegas for clip editing and effects and then put clips into Corel for quick rendering and flexibility. It takes a steep learning curve but, it is well worth the effort. It blows Corel away, to mention only these few things of which there are more. Vegas is extremely powerful in motion video, color correction, chroma key, and Pan/Zoom. Now that I mentioned the bad, here is the good. So, rendering and fexibility of movement are Vegas shortfalls to me. Apparently, Vegas lovers are not bothered by this fact. I hate to think how long my European Trip Video, of over two hours, would have taken-over night to be sure. A one hour video, with many effects, can take over five hours to render in Vegas. The author of "101 Tips, Tricks and Techniques," Bill Myers substantiated what I found out through experience. You must edit in small packets.Īlso, in rendering, I was in for a big surprise-few talk about this. When you only have a timeline (Vegas,) it's a bitch to locate and move around efficiently with 50 to 60 clips or more. Moving around with a storyboard editor, in Corel, is a simple matter. Things that are easily done in Corel are more envolved in Vegas. The level of complexity between the two is enormous.
